1.) Douglas Falls / Kennedy Falls / Alfred Falls

Located in Thomas, WV, this off the beaten path site along the blackwater canyon bike trail is truly amazing.  Kennedy Falls (the biggest - shown below) requires a guide to locate.  About 30 minutes from camp.

3.) Tipi From Start to Completion

We set about building a tipi at camp in the Fall of 2024.   From cutting 15 locust tree sections for posts, each 22 feet long, and an 18 foot interior diameter, we had it completed in just a few weeks.  Now an accommodation at the camp.

2.) Otter Creek Wilderness

Otter Creek Wilderness Area is accessible off Rt. 72 with a parking area just a few miles beyond Hendricks. A spectacular stream valley hike and a cable swinging bridge which crosses over the Dryfork River.  About 15 minutes from camp.

4.) Four Spectacular Ravines Waterfalls in Monongahela National Forest

Unknown to most, this hidden gem is just 3/4 of a mile from camp.  None of these waterfalls can be seen from the road.  Moderate hiking challenge for sure.  Fragile eco-system.  Respect.  Just a couple of minutes from camp.

6.) Blackwater Canyon Trail -- Big Run Falls

Along the Blackwater Canyon Trail (Rails to Trails bike trail from Thomas to Hendricks), one can drive a few miles along the gravel road parallel to the blackwater river... park at limerock cemetary at the gate, walk about a 1000 feet, and her is Big Run Falls.

7.) Cabin D1 - 12x32: Dryfork Forest Retreat

One of our newest furnished cabins at Brooklyn Heights Camp.  This 12x32 cabin features sleeping for 6 and lots of room inside to relax and enjoy meals.  A great fire pit outside and a very private setting.  Heated.

11.) Fernow Experimental Forest

The Fernow has a dirt road that goes back miles following elklick run.   Spectacular steep creek valley, the first mile of which from Brooklyn Heights Rd. is the best.  Labeled Rt. 701 off of Brooklyn Heights Rd.  About 5 minutes from camp.

This group river front campsite is located just to the left of the main camp beach area.  Close to the main swim hole and lots of fun. For more privacy, try RF1.

17.) Big Run Falls (upper) and Olson Fire Tower

Located in the Monongahela National Forest access road across from Tucker Co. High schoool off or Rt. 219, this stunning set of waterfalls and this fire tower are sure to impress.  About 20 minutes from camp.

14.) 10x12 Primitive Shelter Cabins

Brooklyn Heights Camp has its 5 original 10x12 primitive shelter cabins that sleep 4 (Including 2 in upper lofts). Simple structures that keep you out of the wind and rain and your food critter safe.  Named CB1 thru CB5.

16.) Group Riverfront Site RF3

This group river front campsite is located just to the right of the main camp beach area.  Close to the main swim hole and lots of fun. For more privacy, try RF1.

18.) Paradise Gorge on the Upper Potomac near Gormania

This spectacular small gorge along the upper potomac involves a short hike along the rail lines from near Gormania parallel to the upper Potomac river.  Spectacular river terrain and the "forgotten" time capsule town of Gormania (from the mid to late 19th century, intact, but somewhat abandned, is fasicanting too.  About 45 minutes from camp.

19.) C1 Bohemian Retreat Bus Site

Campsite C1 includes 2 retro buses painted and decorated bohemian style that sleep up to 4 each in beds that can configured as 4 twins or 2 fulls.

23.) Blackwater Canyon Bike Trail - Thomas to Hendricks past Douglas Falls

This spectacular bike ride along the blackwater rails to trails bike trail is a must do.  Bike from Thomas to Hendricks downhill along the river gorge.  Blackwater Bikes in Davis will arrange a van transport at 9am in Parsons for you and your bikes... they drop you in Thomas and you bike back to your vehicle along the trails.

This group riverfront site is more private and sits along a shallow stretch of river.  Parking for 3 vehicls just above.

22.) The Waterfall at Brooklyn Heights Camp

We have our very own 10 tier waterfall here at Brooklyn Heights Camp.  Well it is most active in the rainy seasons of Fall thru Spring, any good rain will get it ripping.  Located downstream just before the 1st entrance of camp (the cabin village).

24.) River Road Waterfalls and the Dryfork River - side trip off Rt. 72

Across the river from camp is Rt 72.  This scenic and windy road goes from Parsons to Canaan Valley  If you keep right after OtterCreek parking area, you will end up on River Road along the Dryfork until it reconnects with Rt. 72 some miles further.... worth the exploration!!  Swimholes, waterfalls, stunning scenery.
